Brief Update
New Scam Alert 🚨
A “brushing” scam involves receiving unordered packages from third-party sellers who then post fake reviews using your name to boost product ratings. These scams often involve small items and raise privacy concerns, as scammers have your address. Experts recommend reporting the package to the retailer (like Amazon), checking your account for unauthorized orders, and changing your password. While you're legally allowed to keep the items, it's important to report the incident to the FTC and the Better Business Bureau to help prevent further scams.

Water Hike💦
Bakersfield plans to raise water rates by $11.50/month for west of Hwy 99 residents due to rising costs. The 5-year plan includes a 34% hike in 2026. A public hearing is set for June 11, and residents can protest under Prop 218.

Did you know?🌳
Kern County led California in almond orchard removals, pulling 8,138 acres—16% of the state’s total—from production between September and March. Growers are responding to improved prices, now 53% higher than last year due to increased global demand and lower supply. Kern ranks third in total almond acreage, behind Fresno and Stanislaus counties. The removals aim to balance supply and demand for better profitability across the almond industry.
