❤️🤍💙Events to Honor Memorial Day❤️🤍💙

Memorial Day in Bakersfield will be marked with ceremonies honoring fallen U.S. service members. Activities feature flag placements, guest speakers, concerts, and community volunteer opportunities. Organizers stress the importance of remembering and honoring the sacrifices that shaped the nation.

  • Bakersfield National Cemetery 

    • Kern County's national cemetery will host a Memorial Day event at 9 a.m. Saturday with guest speakers, a helicopter flyover, honor guard, and music. Limited accessible parking and ASL interpretation will be available. Volunteers can help place and remove over 10,000 flags on veterans’ gravesites. Attendees should arrive early; the ceremony will last about an hour.

  • Historic Union Cemetery

    • Bakersfield’s oldest cemetery will host its annual Memorial Day ceremony at 9 a.m. Monday, featuring guest speakers, a Garrison Flag, JROTC color presentation, and taps. Volunteers are invited to place flags on veterans’ gravesites Friday, May 23, and retrieve them Tuesday, May 27. The event takes place at 730 Potomac Ave. For details, call 661-324-9648

  • Camp Hamilton

    • Camp Hamilton will host a free Memorial Day ceremony Monday at 2 p.m., honoring fallen servicemembers with tree dedications. Located east of Shafter, the veterans memorial park preserves the names and stories of those who served. A barbecue lunch will follow the ceremony. Gates open at noon.

  • Thousand Flags display at The Park at River Walk

    • The Thousand Flags display at The Park at River Walk returns for Memorial Day weekend, despite a theft last fall. Events include a free concert, fun run, ceremonies, and flag displays honoring fallen service members. Volunteers are needed for setup and teardown. Activities run Saturday through Monday, with the main ceremony at 9 a.m. on Memorial Day.

Maya Cinemas is reviving its Summer Kids Camp starting June 2, offering $3 family-friendly movies all summer. From June 2–5, free admission to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be available (limit six tickets per person, in-person only). Seats are limited and first-come, first-served.
